Rick Slaven MPS, NRP, PM-CC
Training Center Coordinator
Rick Slaven is an EMS educator, Critical Care Paramedic, and nationally recognized speaker with nearly 30 years of experience. As Education Coordinator for Jefferson County EMS in Tennessee, he leads clinical education, provider development, protocol implementation, and evidence-based practice initiatives. Rick holds a master's degree in training and development from Middle Tennessee State University and has presented more than 100 programs nationwide, including EMS World Expo, ACCREDITCON, and the NAEMSE Annual Conference. His topics include clinical decision-making, cardiology, organizational culture, leadership, human factors, and artificial intelligence in EMS education. He received the Gold Foundation Humanistic Care Award for his leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic. His goal is to challenge assumptions, encourage critical thinking, and improve patient care.
Angie Bowen MPS, RN, CPEN, NRP IC
Instructor Coordinator/ Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinator
Angie Bowen is a Nurse/Paramedic and is the Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinator for Jefferson County EMS, where she has served part-time as a field paramedic and educator since 2005. She has 35 years of emergency nursing experience and 39 years of prehospital experience, working in both EMS and rescue. Angie’s background is in hospital-based pediatric emergency medicine and critical care transport. She has also worked as part of a global medical response team for radiological/nuclear events. Angie serves on many state and regional committees, holds instructorships and affiliate faculty status in numerous courses, has published multiple manuscripts, and has served as a content editor and chapter author for emergency care texts.
Keith Holt AAS, NRP IC
Instructor Coordinator/ Paramedic
An experienced paramedic and EMS educator, he has dedicated hundreds of hours to preparing emergency medical professionals for the demands of the field. He currently serves as a captain, a full-time paramedic, an instructor coordinator for the EMT/AEMT classes, and a medical death investigator with Jefferson County EMS. His teaching experience also includes service as adjunct lab faculty at Walters State Community College and as a training officer with Greeneville-Greene County EMS. He has instructed groups as small as four and as large as 300 in classrooms, outdoors, and in hands-on environments, using numerous teaching tools. He holds an A.A.S. in Public Safety, earned summa cum laude, and maintains instructor credentials in EPC, AMLS, ACLS, PALS, BLS, ADLS, ITLS, extrication, EVOC, and bloodborne pathogens. His extensive leadership and organizational experience further strengthen his practical, detail- oriented approach to EMS education.
